About the Event

Our iconic SIMA Careers event is back with some inspirational speakers from a wide variety of medical and dental background. Our speakers will discuss their university journey and careers so far, fielding key questions from the audience and providing tips and motivation for your university and career journey.

Dr Hatem Sadik

Hatem Sadik is a second year foundation trainee currently working in Intensive Care Medicine at Hammersmith Hospital. He completed his medical training at the University of Cambridge and spent one month at the Neurosurgical Teaching Hospital in Baghdad. Hatem hopes to start Core Surgical Training in August 2021 and has a particular interest in General Surgery.

Mr Muhamed Alanie

Muhamed studied Medicine in Edinburgh with an intercalated BMedSci in Physiology (2013), graduating in 2016. He completed his foundation jobs in Glasgow before undertaking a clinical fellow job in Trauma and Orthopaedics in Bristol in 2018. He gained membership of the Royal College of Surgeons and completed the MSc in Surgical Sciences at the University of Edinburgh, graduating with distinction, in 2019. He commenced an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship Specialty Training post in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the University of Warwick in 2019. Since then, he has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, and is currently undertaking a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Research as well as applying for grants to receive funding for his PhD project.

Dr Yusra Al-Mukhtar

Dr Yusra is a dental surgeon and a medical aesthetic clinician. She is an advanced experienced facial aesthetic practitioner with several years’ experience in maxillofacial head and neck surgery and skin cancer surgery.

She qualified first from Imperial College London with a First class honours degree in Medical Science and Healthcare Management, then as a dental surgeon with Honours and Distinction from King’s College London after obtaining several prizes for clinical excellence.

Alongside this, Dr Yusra owns her own clinic, providing many treatments in facial aesthetics and a social media presence that motivates and inspires all.

Dr Noor Sayala

Dr Noor graduated with a BDS (Hons) from King’s College London in 2020 and has started a joint dental training programme called JDFCT. This programme incorporates both Dental Foundation Training (DFT) and the first year of Dental Core Training (DCT1) simultaneously across 2 years, through spending alternative weeks in practice and in hospital.

Dr Noor has also set up an Instagram page, where she plans to share what it is like being on the JDFCT programme as well as interesting cases she may come across, ultimately inspiring and educating others on this unique training programme!

Dr Hassan Asad

Originally born and raised in Baghdad, Dr Hassan Asad graduated as a dentist with distinction from Leeds University in 2018. During the later stages of his dental foundation training (DFT), Dr Hassan went over to Vancouver, Canada to present some research at the IADR and encourages anyone interested to take part in research!

After training, he decided to invest in a PGCert in aesthetic and restorative dentistry with Aspire, which has changed the way he practises dentistry clinically and given him an insight into the power of emotional intelligence.

Dr Hassan started his Instagram page and has used the platform as a way of networking and learning. During the COVID-19 lockdown, he started a Facebook Group called ‘Deciduous’ alongside a few colleagues. This group aimed to create an environment where dentists could come together and support one another during these tough times. It was a success and Dr Hassan was able to share the story of his journey on Dentistry.co.uk as well as being invited to speak on their podcast!

As Dr Hassan would say ‘I grew a beard and started making teeth look pretty’.
